It sounds hopeful. It sounds romantic. But it’s also something you can’t fully control.
This year, we’re inviting you to set a different kind of resolution as a single person in 2026. One that puts the focus back on you.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting a partner. But resolutions work best when they’re rooted in things you can influence day to day.
You can’t control who you meet or when the right person shows up. What you can control is how well you know yourself, how open you are to connection, and whether your life leaves space for someone new to step into it.
That’s a far more powerful place to start.
Before thinking about dating, take some time to reflect on what really matters to you.
What values shape your decisions? What kind of future genuinely excites you? What does a good life look like for you in our community in South Manchester?
When you’re clear on your values, dating feels less like guesswork and more like alignment.
Once you’ve pictured a future that lights you up, ask yourself where a partner fits.
What kind of person would complement your life rather than complete it? What qualities would they bring into your world? What values would you want them to share?
This isn’t about creating a checklist. It’s about understanding what feels right for you.
This can be the most uncomfortable – and most useful – question.
If you met yourself this year, would you be ready to date? Are you emotionally available? Curious? Open to compromise and communication?
Reflecting honestly on what you’ve learnt from past relationships can be incredibly grounding. What patterns do you want to repeat? What lessons do you want to carry forward? What do you want to leave behind in 2025?
Once you have a sense of the kind of person you’d like to meet, consider where they might spend their time.
If values matter to you, chances are your future partner will be drawn to spaces that reflect those values too. Community events. Bookshops. Social gatherings. Places where people show up as themselves.
And then – go there.
If you decide that dating and meeting amazing local singles is going to be part of your journey this year, we’d love to see you at a singles night.
Our singles events across Didsbury, Withington and Chorlton are designed to make it easier to meet new people in a relaxed, welcoming way. We host singles nights and singles parties in South Manchester that bring together people who value connection, conversation and community.
We’ve added more themed singles events than ever before, including a Singles Night in a Bookshop, a Sport Lovers singles night, events for vegans and vegetarians, a Christian singles night, a singles night for people who don’t want children, and a neurodivergent singles night.
